JUNEAU – T.J. Duffy will perform a free solo organ debut concert at noon on March 27, 2009 at the 8th floor atrium of the State Office Building. Duffy says he aims to promote Alaska’s musical history by performing on the only working theater pipe organ in Alaska.

T.J. Duffy is a classically-trained, rock-influenced musician who recently moved to Juneau from America’s Music City, Nashville, Tenn. T.J. plays piano, pipe organs and digital keyboards and will present a free, one-hour program on the Mighty Kimball pipe organ located in the 8th floor atrium of the state office building in Juneau.

T.J. is a Executive Administrative Assistant for the Juneau Alliance for Mental Health, Inc. He does music gigs on the side when time permits. He holds a B.A. in Communications and Music from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He is also the Night Manager at Fireweed Place apartments.

Although he is a native of Indiana, T.J. lived in Nashville for 11 years prior to moving to Juneau and was part of the music scene in Nashville. His favorite gig was providing solo piano entertainment for a dinner honoring Nashville residents Al and Tipper Gore in 2005. He also provided solo cocktail music at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center for the Obama Presidential Inaugural Ball in January. His hobbies include creative writing, calligraphy, political activism, volunteerism, camping, day hiking, photography and videography. He is a member of American Mensa and former member of the American Guild of Organists, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra League and various progressive, freedom-loving political causes and organizations.

The concert will begin with a fanfare, then the audience is invited to sing along with the official state song of Alaska, “Alaska’s Flag”. The remainder of the concert will include songs from the 1940’s jazz era, film, Broadway and something involving a phantom.
