Horrific Friday the 28th
I had to double-check the date. The 13th was indeed a while ago; this Friday is the 28th, not the 13th. It just seems odd that this week’s new films are both the kind that would normally come out on some conveniently placed Friday the 13th. What will be interesting is to see if either Rob Zombie’s “H2” or “The Final Destination” can overtake Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” which grossed almost $40 million in its opening last weekend.
“H2″ picks up, it would appear, exactly where 2007′s “Halloween” left off. That’s always kind of cool, if you ask me, when a franchise doesn’t leave any gaps. Michael Meyers should be proud. As for the movie itself? I’d say it looks appropriately gory and is likely filled with lots of good scares:
“H2″ will soon be terrorizing audiences in 3,000 theaters across the country – although not in Juneau, Alaska.
The other horror offering – which will be in Juneau come Friday – is “The Final Destination.” Whether or not it is actually THE final destination remains to be seen, and probably depends largely on how many of us make it a $10 destination this weekend. You should know the drill be now, though. Some kid sees a catastrophe before it happens, talks his friends into leaving a situation before it develops – cheating death. But death doesn’t like to be cheated. And then it comes for you.
That’s what makes the “Destination” movies so much fun, though — all the creative ways to have folks killed. Here’s a look at the newest one:
The other new flick this Friday is nothing like either of these two horror movies. It’s comedian Demetri Martin starting what eventually became Woodstock. Interestingly, “Taking Woodstock” is an Ang Lee film. “Taking Woodstock” is opening in a much smaller number of theaters, however (1,300) so in order to see it quickly you’ll probably have to be in a major city.
You know, like, not Juneau, Alaska.
Review for “The Time Traveler’s Wife” out on Thursday morning…
