Not much

The new stuff on the big screen this weekend? Ah… not much. If you’re dying to see the movie they threw together for MJ (or rather, to recoup the money lost from his, you know, not touring) — there’s “This Is It.” I know they mean “this is it” in regards to the King of Pop, but they could also be referring to the new releases in theaters.

That pretty much is it.

“This Is It” is a compilation of interviews, back-stage footage and rehearsals of MJ preparing for the tour he will never get to do. I feel guilty for saying it, but I really don’t care. Sorry. Simmer down. The quickly thrown together flick is in almost 3,500 theaters and technically has been for 2 days — it opened on Wednesday. While my attitude is kind of a Debbie Downer… most seem to really like it.

A taste:

There’s one other film newly released — it’s a sequel to a little move called “The Boondock Saints.” Back in 1999 Troy Duffy wrote and directed the action movie about brothers (Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus) who start killing bad guys in the name of good in Boston. It came out of nowhere, as I remember it. And it was one of those movies that was “cool” to like — I liked it.

Guess I’m cool.

And now there’s “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.” It’s in all of 68 theaters right now. And maybe they shouldn’t have bothered. Still, judging from the trailer, and the fact that Duffy, Patrick Flannery and Reedus are all back… I’m hopeful the sequel will have much the same tone and style of the original.

Here’s Mr. Duffy himself introducing the trailer:

Speaking of Duffy, by the way — he seems like he’d make a great interview.

And yes, that’s Judd Nelson.

Happy Halloween!!
