That’ll teach me

I bad mouth the MJ movie and now I am reviewing it. Pickins’ are slim. So that’s on the agenda for tonight… review day after tomorrow.

Kind of interesting that the top two movies at the box office right now are the previously mentioned MJ flick (“This Is It“), a movie put together to essentially recoup some of the massive amount of dough lost by the folks who put together the tour MJ never made… and “Paranormal Activity,” a movie made on $15,000.

Has anyone out there in the silent abyss (I’m assuming there are souls in said abyss) seen “Paranormal”? I’m curious… and folks around Juneau are, too. I’ve been asked about it, although I have nothing interesting to say or offer since, you know, I haven’t seen it. I’m sure it’ll make its way to Alaska, though, with the buzz it continues to generate (and box office cash).

What I’m curious about, though, is if it’s another “The Blair Witch Project” — as in I’ll go and see it and wish I had never wasted the money.

Here’s the trailer for “Paranormal Activity”:

P.S. What is the profit margin on something that cost $15k to make and has earned almost $20 million and counting? Anyone?

As slow as it has been for a couple of weeks for the new stuff, this Friday has a wide variety of newbies, including “The Box,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” “The Fourth Kind,” and “A Christmas Carol“… we’ll look more at them later in the week.

Here in Alaska’s capital city we’re getting an even bigger variety of new stuff on the big screen come Friday. We’ll get “The Men Who Stare at Goats” (George Clooney and company) on opening day, as well as “The Box” and “A Christmas Carol,” but we’ll also get our crack, finally, at the still going strong Vince Vaughn comedy “Couples Retreat” and the LeBron James’ documentary “More Than a Game.”

We’ll keep waiting, for now, for our turn at “The Blair— excuse me, “Paranormal Activity.”
