Here I am! Thanks Lifebong. (shhhh, I’m a man).
6 dogs died in last year’s Iditarod. An average of 2 dogs die each race, for the amusement of people.
Michael Vick did similar things.
This race is a blemish on Alaska. This tradition needs to die. The original Iditarod was not a race, it was a relay to deliver serum to Nome.
Racing dogs a few miles for tourists is one thing. Racing them 1100 miles in extreme weather until some of them die is cruel and stupid. It serves only for the ADN to hype it so they can attract advertisers.
p.s., I am not in PETA. I don’t agree with them. But I AM a dog owner and a dog lover, and mushers obviously are not. Otherwise, they wouldn’t drive them to death. And when the mushers aren’t mushing their dogs, they tie them to a stake in the ground.
Most dog owners I know who have any decency at all would never tie their dogs to a stake in the ground, no would they drive their dogs until they died.
