Open season on gas pipeline closing

JUNEAU – Alaskans should know by the end of the day Friday whether there was any interest in building a major natural gas pipeline in the state.
But few other details will likely be released when TransCanada Corp. officially ends its 90-day process of seeking shipping commitments for its proposed line.
The stakes are high and the interest is intense: a gas pipeline has long been held out as important to Alaska’s longterm economic fortunes, and TransCanada is working to advance a line under an exclusive agreement with the state that includes up to $500 million in funding to aid that effort.
The close of the so-called open season comes as a competing pipeline project continues soliciting bids.
