  1. bfluetsch Says:

I like Dennis on problem corner, and think as a legislator it would be in the wrong direction for Juneau. Joe Nelson was a step in the right direction for Juneau’s future. Governor, we need NEW energy in Alaska’s leadership, I know Mayor Botelho is into recycling, but this is carrying the cause a bit too far.

  2. rkykaufman Says:

The situation is such that any conscientous person familiar with the process is better than the void that exists now. Why not appoint Dennis? He did a good job as mayor and would do the same in the role of interim Senator.
Too bad this couldn’t have been figured out back when Elton was getting ready to leave town rather than 6 weeks later.

  3. Ich Rauche Says:

Dennis is a nice guy and I really loved his father. I remember his dad dressing up as Santa on Christmas and walking through town. Personally, I’d rather have somebody besides Dennis in the position. However, I think he might be one of the better options at this point.

  4. tpann Says:

Egan is a great choice. We need representation now.

  5. jnucomment Says:

Dennis is a tireless advocate for Juneau and he has a statewide perspective too. He can’t be bought, knows people, issues, politics, and Juneau. Awesome choice, I’m glad he agreed to serve. Of any person out there, Dennis is one Democrat who is truly bipartisan and will work on issues, not for a party line, seems like a good choice for both the Dems and the Administration.

  6. StillBob Says:

Yup, nice call Mayor Botelho. This will be a tough one for the governor to tank, but I have faith in her. Of course, she’ll be busy attending political events in Indiana so this trivial state business will have to wait.

  7. Willbealaskanagain Says:

If he’s anything like his dad I say, Go for it! Of course he could turn into an alternative for Palin? Bill was a great guy and an asset for Alaska, Dennis may turn out the same way.

  8. bfluetsch Says:

There is four days left, the operating and capital budgets have been passed and the only thing left to do is shoot down Wayne Ross as AG in this session.

We should have an election since there is no hurry at this point.

  9. bluecollar Says:

Nice guy, but Dennis didn’t want the job earlier. Why should Juneau compomise? There are actually qualified people out there that want to do the job and not just be a place holder. I agree with bfluetch!

  10. ak1979 Says:

    “YES”

  11. Bill Burk Says:

Of all the peole that have or are consideres, Dennis is the best choice other than Beth for the job, He loves Juneau, knows its issues and would do a GREAT JOB

  12. Bill Burk Says:

Sporry for the typo I ment people not peole. Coffee not yet started to work

  13. imo Says:

He’s definitely better than what we have now. I think Dennis would do a good job. He has been around a long, long time and we know he is a “true” Democrat!!! The problem is Sarah wants to keep appointing faux Democrats!

  14. jemeda2007 Says:

Just like Mr. Nelson, Mr. Grussendorf, this guy Mr. Egan is a nice candidate who would try equally hard to be a good representative for all of Juneau in the legislature senate.

  15. gmpatton Says:

Dennis would be the perfect choice. Moderate, pragmatic, bipartisan representation by someone who is 100% behind advancing this town’s interests is exactly what we need. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel!

  16. Questioning Spirit Says:

So is someone trying to say that of the 18 people who have expressed interest early on — 14 directly to the governor and 4 recommended by local Democrats — none are as qualified as Dennis?

  17. jemeda2007 Says:

Although, if i had to vote for one today that would be a difficult decision because, like President Obama and Mccain, they are just not the perfect candidate. the right person for our representation in juneau is still out there. As much as these three seem/look likable and they would be okay in the job, I would like to see someone else who is educated by holding a diploma in a specific area, worked in jobs that put experience behind their diploma, involved, shown respect, and genuine interest in the all the communities inside Juneau, and a type of individual that leads and does their own thing without alienating opposing groups and individuals but also this individual leader who is humble in his/her own opinions to be able to know when they can be wrong and the right answer could come from someone who they have opposed.

  18. akflyer Says:

Dennis Egan would be GREAT for Juneau. Good choice.

    then Impeach Sarah Palin.

  19. akngirl Says:

ABSOLUTELY!!!! and this is coming from a Republican. Dennis is by far the best choice yet!

  20. James Madison Says:

He has one essential qualifiation that Grussendorf and Nelson did not have. He was elected to a public office by Juneau voters. Grussendorf got trounced in his bid to win a house seat.

Where has Munoz been during this process? I can hear it now “this is a Democratic Party issue blah, blah, blah…” She is supposedly a big pal of the Governor. But I know that she has been really busy with the daylight savings time bill that is just soooo important to the citizens of Juneau. Especially since we wil be another hour off from the SE business hub of Seattle.

  21. flyfish-n-Lady Says:

I was thrilled to learn that Dennis Egan’s name has been thrown into the hat for the Democratic Senate seat. While I supported Beth Kerttula it appears to me that Palin has her own agenda for this seat. Dennis Egan will bring a strong voice to all of S.E. Alaska issues as well as knowledge and dedication to the legislative process. I can see no reason for Palin to have any issues with this candidate.

  22. leaflikker Says:

Egan is a much better choice than the first two, so I’m sure Palin won’t pick him.

  23. Bill Burk Says:

As much as I think Dennis is a wonderful choice, we have to remember the Queen Palin marches to her own drummer. She is a vindictive selfserving person and would do anything to be the dictator of this great state

  24. Cindy D Says:

I will miss Dennis Egan on Problem Corner, but I think he will do a great job as State Senator for Juneau.

  25. ToddP Says:

Put Egan on the job. Then in 2010 he could run for Governor.

And THAT is why Sarah won’t select him.

  26. Lol Says:

Curious. When would have Elton’s term been up?

  27. ToddP Says:

    2010

    EGAN FOR GOVERNOR!!

  28. magicwolf2012 Says:

Grussendorf & Nelson were Palin’s partisan attempts to dictate to the voters of Juneau. Democrats were spot-on in rejecting both of them – because of Palin’s grandstanding plays. Dennis Egan, who supports Beth Kerttula, would be an effective place-holder.

  29. Questioning Spirit Says:

Don’t know magicwolf — I heard the behind-closed-doors vote by Senate Demcrats that rejected Joe Nelson wasn’t nearly as unanimous as you’re implying…

  30. magicwolf2012 Says:

Questioning – That just isn’t the point. I didn’t imply that any vote was unanimous – just that they both were rightly rejected. It is not a matter of how close Senate Democrats came to approving Joe Nelson. It isn’t about Joe Nelson at this point – I’m sure a very nice person, but a political babe in the woods – a complete unknown to Juneau voters – and never elected to office – and not one who was on the list submitted by Juneau Democrats. This is about a Governor who prefers to cram her agenda down the throats of voters in a town she would like to usurp the Capital from. This is about not allowing her cronyism without putting up a loud ruckus!

  31. Frank N. Beans Says:

I can definitely tell the democrats here, nevermind that Kim Elton spent months torching Sarah in an attempt to gain a position on Obama’s staff, which worked, or that he bolted immediately giving no notice, what is it about his position as assistant to the secretary of the ambassador to alaska that couldn’t wait???? whatever, you are slammin Sarah for being here during session more than any other recent gov but she is going to be out for 2 days towards the end? patti is a self serving hag and i would love to see her outed during the next election, there was more than enough advance notice for her absence and it has nothing to do with the topic at hand(stillbob). Dennis Egan is not the best choice, let it stay vacant, i would rather see this seat left open than have Dennis sit in till the next election, there is no reason for us to have our representation picked for us. While there are some that want Dennis because he is a “nice guy” why don’t we consider Wade who owns Subway here? He is a nice guy, interested in politics and has a stake locally to see things improve.

  32. leaflikker Says:

Frank Beans: The only thing you can definitely tell democrats is you are full of recycled Palin and republican talking points.

  33. magicwolf2012 Says:

Mr. Beans: Calling someone a “self serving hag” in the blogs is inappropriate – hopefully your rant will be removed. Meanwhile, by being “here” more than any recent gov during session, you certainly aren’t referring to JUNEAU, where our self-serving Governor should be. Further, your suggestion to “let it stay vacant” shows your ignorance of state law. On top of that, you put forward an extreme right-wing Repulican in your suggestion of the Juneau owner of Subway… What a joke! You’re as clueless as the Gov!

  34. arbitrarysquid Says:

Absolutely he’s a good fit. He’ll do just fine until we can have an election roll around.

  35. Princepessa Says:

I believe we should have a special election now that the legislative session is almost over. It’s obvious the Democrats vs. Palin is a waste of time and energy. The only progress that has been made is they agree to disagree. Beth Kertula is not getting in and neither is anyone Palin selects. We need a special election!

  36. magicwolf2012 Says:

You can call for a special election all you want. The law is the law, so it isn’t going to happen. We will deal with the process outlined in law.

  37. Eowyn Says:

IF Dennis has been a democrat for at least the past year and the rest of the 9 dems ok him, great. Beans, your response could be misread as disrespectful of democrats, I am sure that you did not MEAN for it to sound that way. However, I must admit that if you are that opposed to Dennis, his support went way up for me.

I personally feel that a special election is called for, but I do not know if there is any way that it can happen. State law says the Queen appoints and the Dems approve.

  38. Porcupine kisser Says:

    No.

I’d rather have no representation for Juneau rather than poor representation.

The Democrats need to stick to their guns and wait out the process until Beth Kerttula is nominated and approved.

  39. Frank N. Beans Says:

registered Democrat IN Juneau, i am digusted by both parties but especially how democrats have responded. I think Dennis is a poor choice to fill the seat because he has no interest in doing so, period. I only comment on Sarah being here because they (Patti Higgins aka the self serving hag) and some other dems have made a huge point about her being gone(nevermind most of them were in DC to start the session, but that doesn’t really matter cuz it takes them a couple of weeks to really get going anyway right?). they will play this i appoint we wont confirm game all the way to the next election. I do not want another do nothing or anyone else that will just sit there till the next election doing nothing.

  40. magicwolf2012 Says:

EMPIRE: PLEASE REMOVE FRANK N. BEANS BLOGS – IT IS AGAINST THE TERMS OF THIS BLOG FOR THIS PERSON TO BE NAMING A PUBLIC OFFICIAL AND CALLING THEM A SELF-SERVING HAG… HE WAS ADVISED OF IT ONCE AND DID IT AGAIN SO HE OBVIOUSLY NEEDS A LITTLE DISCIPLINE…

  41. akngirl Says:

magicwolf – if you don’t like it don’t read it. I am not saying that I approve or agree with him, I am merely saying that this schoolyard tattling and whining needs to stop before the Empire does away with this section. You sound like all those people who were complaining about it that got it stopped in the first place.

  42. Problem Corner Says:

Den Den will do a good job representing Juneau, plus he could do his Problem corner show live from the Capital building, so it would be a win win for all concerned. Since the Gov turned down all the other prospects, let Dennis have a shot, he does know the political game going on Statewide.

  43. Bill Burk Says:

magicwolf the paper is getting some software so that people like Frank N Beans will not be allowed to even post

  44. TJ Says:

Censorship reflects a society’s lack of confidence in itself.
It is the landmark of an authoritarian regime…”
    Potter Stewart
    Ginsberg v. United States, 1966

  45. TJ Says:

“The First and Fourteenth Amendments say that Congress and the States
shall make “no law” which abridges freedom of speech or of the press.
In order to sanction a system of censorship I would have to say that
“no law” does not mean what it says, that “no law” is qualified to mean
“some” laws. I cannot take this step.”
    William O. Douglas (1898-1980), U. S. Supreme Court Justice
Superior Films v. Department of Education of the State of Ohio,1954

  46. TJ Says:

Since when have we Americans been expected to bow submissively to authority
and speak with awe and reverence to those who represent us?
    William O. Douglas

  47. lookingattown Says:

Why do we need another name on the list? No offense to Egan. I think Gov Palin should choose already! Seems to me like we are having to treat her like a child that is having a tantrum.

  48. ToddP Says:

Think about it. Dennis Egan running for governor.

    – Statewide name recognition
    – Nonpartisan
    – Not an extremist nutcase (in either direction)
    – Strong family lineage
    – Widely respected by all flavors (read almost universal support above – when was the last time you saw that?)
    – No grandiose political agendas. His focus would be on his current job.
    – Intelligent, articulate, and experienced (unlike you-know-who)
    – A uniter – seeks compromise and win-win. Would never nominate a Ross for AG for example.
    – Good sense of humor.

This is the kind of guy who could beat Palin. Most Alaskans (even republicans) are getting sick of her ways, and Egan would be a down-to-earth breath of fresh air. And because of his family heritage he’d be a known entity to some degree.

Southeast would love him, and the rest of the state (especially Anchorage) would embrace him too.

  49. TJ Says:

And if Denns is half as smart as dad, that couldbe 95% better than Hickle, Murkowski, Cowper, Knowles, and Sheffield put togather.

  50. akngirl Says:

Depending on who runs against Dennis, I think that I would actually have to vote for him. I think he would make an excellent Governor.

  51. aymondray Says:

Personally I think Joe Nelson would have done a great job. He knows his politics and can approach it with logic and common sense. But as most of you people know, logic and common sense is something that is frowned upon in most of Alaska. Just look at the Governors actions. No logic, and most of these nut jobs are happy about it. What I like about Joe is he doesn’t lean to far left and knows how to balance with the right. That may be too logical for some of you but try and understand.
Another thing that cracks me up is these political experts saying he can’t do the job because he is a “political unknown”. WHO GIVES A CRAP. We have political knowns that still can’t do their job right. I would rather have a “political unknown” with fresh ideas than same old crap we’ve been having for years and years. Sometimes you people just baffle me.

Just so you people understand, my statement above does not mean I am against Dennis Egan for the Juneau Senate seat by no means. I just means I think Joe Nelson would have done a great job.

  52. aymondray Says:

I can’t believe Mr. Beans statements were removed. Oh my gosh you people, get over it. It wasn’t even offending. Quit crying, if you don’t like what he is writing then don’t read it. Let me tell you how that thing called a mouse works. You can hold the left button down and drag right past his statements and then you don’t have to read it. Now you try it, it really works trust me. It’s a whole new concept in freedom. The freedom of choice. Imagine that. The choice not to read something. What bunch of cry babies.

  53. gmpatton Says:

I think it would be great if Mr. Egan ran for statewide office. However, the Dennis Egan’s of the political world frequently won’t make it to or through the primaries because they don’t appeal to the radical nutcases that currently dominate the leadership in the Republican and Democratic parties. Middle of the road, commonsense, bipartisanship and pragmatism are absent from our two dominant political parties and hence our only choices tend to be candidates at the extreme ends of the political spectrum…which isn’t really a choice at all.

  54. Frank N. Beans Says:

magicwolf, you sound like my 8 year old daughter. Bill Burk, are you racist? People like me? Would that be people that care about what is happening, really, and are passionate about those beliefs. I named patti directly because she made the biggest stink out of all of it, and i think her posturing is nothing more than a bid for herself to try to ascend the Elton ladder(smash Republicans regardless of whether or not they were really doing anything wrong and get a job on Borat’s staff) and i am sick of it, from both parties. Yes, let Dennis run based on his name alone, it worked for Eddie Murphy (at least in the movie The Distinguished Gentleman ). Nevermind he really did nothing with the time he did have in politics before or he has so little interest in it now he is “willing to be a compromise”, so lets put him out there for gov, because no other dem in the state will beat Sarah. Wolf, Bill, you make me happy to be here.

  55. akngirl Says:

Keep it up magicwolf and JE will take this comment section away because of people such as yourself who can not ignore what they find as in poor taste. Instead you feel the need to YELL at the JE moderator demanding that FrankNBeans comments be removed. How childish is that, I didn’t agree with him, but I feel he has a right to his own opinion the same as you or I or the next person. Please use common sense and ignore that which you don’t agree with in the future and don’t act like a childish kid.

  56. magicwolf2012 Says:

Thanks Bill – I’d raqther there not be any blogs if people are going to call each other names like “hag”. Harsh criticism that stays within the bounds of civility is to be expected, and I certainly have no problem with that, having dealt some harsh criticism out myself.

    akngirl – you obviously don’t get it…

  57. akngirl Says:

Oh please magicwolf, enlighten me. Bestow your great and almighty wisdom on me.

Hag is not a terrible name, I have heard and been called worse. But then I consider the source and make my own choices/decisions/assumptions. I don’t feel the need to stomp my feet to have someone’s opinions removed or silenced. I just deal with it.

  58. Left-handed Storm Trooper Says:

What a great choice. Let’s “get ‘er done”

  59. aymondray Says:

    magicwolf2012,

What doesn’t akngirl get exactly? If you would rather have no blog than don’t participate, please. Just shut off your computer and don’t plan on turning back on like……….ever. The way I see it is you probably are offended by anything on the internet. So do yourself a favor and give your computer to someone else.
You obviously didn’t take my advice of just scrolling past Mr. Beans comments. That would be to easy and who likes things easy anyway? Oh yeah, I do. Give it a rest and quit being such a cry baby.

  60. akngirl Says:

Funny…my comments always seem to have to go through moderation first. Wonder who is afraid of what? I am just a Republican mother of three who is a little vocal, is that such a bad thing JE?

  61. akngirl Says:

Or did you complain to JE about me magic?

  62. LemonCreek1971 Says:

Fond memories of Gov. Egan….remember how he would greet you as he passed by. Don’t seem to see much of that now. Hope that Dennis Egan brings that sense of caring about Alaska to the senate seat. Most of all, I hope that he brings the strong sense of standing up for SE like Sen Bill Ray used too. At the rate the capitol is being “outsourced” to Anchorage/Wasilla, Juneau will be left holding an empty bag. Go Sen Egan!!!!

  63. Bill Burk Says:

The comment section is for ADULT comments. It doesn’t matter what political side one is on, but calling people derogatory names, putting others down because their opinion differs from you is not adult behavior. That is what they do grade school and has no place in the news paper

  64. snagger Says:

Dennis should stick to radio. Since when do Alaskans only support people with the right name. Joe Nelson would have been the perfect person to represent all the people of the district!

  65. USArmyVeteran Says:

I’d say Dennis Egan would be fine IF Sarah Palin would “install” him prior Thursday. If she won’t, then I think we should just keep lobbying for the one we want (not a compromise). It’s unfortunate that we can’t have a new special election.

  66. ak1979 Says:

    To. magicwolf2012

You might want to call every TV station and tell them to stop using the word b.i.t.c.h :) what a joke!!!

Not everyone’s going to like Dennis Egan but the majority loves him.

  67. rkykaufman Says:

How about we all calm down, grow a little thicker skins, and get back to the business at hand?
The Governor has until the 20th to make another appointment, if I’m correct. Let’s see if she goes along with this nomination, but if not she’ll be taken to task as to why, and should be.
This whole mess could have been avoided in many ways, but that’s water under the bridge now. Juneau needs a State Senator! No more hair-pulling about party favorites or who frustrated whose political ambitions 6 months ago. And next time, if there is one, lets all resolve to do a better job of compromising for the common good.

  68. bfluetsch Says:

    OMG snagger and I agreed!

  69. ak1979 Says:

what is palins problem does she have a grudge against someone???

  70. ToddP Says:

How about Nelson run for a seat on the Assembly, or Mayor. Then we can see what he’s all about. No more buying into these mystery politicians who turn out to be something we didn’t count on…like Palin.

  71. ak1979 Says:

The Alaska senate and governor has Alaskans fighting against each other……..where is the compromise?

  72. Karla Hart Says:

    Yes.

  73. bfluetsch Says:

    Alan Wilson

  74. tpann Says:

Who is Alan Wilson? Is he a Democrat?

  75. Reality Check List Says:

Botelho shoots for a “place holder”….hmmm.. Is this another of the local dems smoothe moves? Probably something in it for him personally. No compromise. Leave the seat vacant until the next election? Isn’t that better for Beth? I suppose the original plan to have Elton resign hours before the filing deadline just didn’t pan out now did it? After all there are just so many ways for you to get your way, darling.
I hope our Governor sticks to her guns! Juneau needs some “new energy”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. ToddP Says:

If Juneau needs “new energy”, then it’s up to Juneau voters to decide that. Until 2010 the governor needs to appoint someone approved by the dems. The dems have provided the list she demanded, now it’s time for her to stop acting like a vindictive, partisan child.

  77. snagger Says:

Now the Senators get a chance to select from some exceptional individuals who can represent the entire district.

  78. John Priestley Jr. Says:

So does this go on the an agenda for a future special session or does it go on the backburner? Does Juneau go into the rest of the year without a Senator, or does Palin skeet shoot the clay pigeon candidates thrown up by the Democrats, one every ten days until an election?

Be careful what you wish for in appointees. Ben Stevens slid in much too easy on what is now known as the ‘oil slick of corruption.’ Did Beth ever answer about those VECO polls or will the Grand Jury be letting us know more about that soon.

Don’t get you undies all bunched up Central Committee, because I this could go on ’til the governor’s busy being re-elected, too.

  79. Back to the Drawing Board Says:

Hard to grasp what game the Gov is playing, but Alan Wilson???? Whoever is advising her needs to explore other career opportunities or the Governor needs to start listening to sound advice. This has gone beyond political gamesmanship…no wonder so many people are apathetic towards politics…this latest news is a joke.

  80. John Priestley Jr. Says:

Alan Wilson. Why not ? He does good work.

  81. gilsfam Says:

I’m a republican and a conservative and I want Dennis Egan for senate. I think he’d be a great choice!

  82. Egan? Say it's not so! Says:

I remember when Egan was mayor of Juneau, he let residents in the valley go without water for five months. It was a very unusual winter. Permfrost went well beyond six feet underground. Main water lines froze. Egan was too bothered to pay attention to us little folks. I carried and filled one gallon water contains from work to home. I finally gave up and drove back and forth to a friend’s house for showers. As mayor, he dropped the ball when twenty families were evicted from their apartments in the dead of winter. The landlord annexed our apartments into their hotel complex. I testified in front of the city counsil that Egan was chairing. I will never forget his ugly arrogance. He came across like the twenty families were the problem, not the landlord. I wonder what his father would have said about ignoring families without water or a home in the dead of winter. Egan as a Senator? Egan as a Governor? Maybe in the town of tim-buck-two.

  83. Give us Beth Says:

Senate Democrats need to appoint Beth Kerttula to the Senate. Enough already. Juneau and Democrats need to stick together and let Queen Palin know in no uncertain terms that this is our town, this is our desire to appoint Kerttula to the Senate. We don’t need a prop.

  84. Republican in Democrat Clothing Says:

Who the heck is Alan Wislon? Another Republican in Democrat clothin? Give us a break Queen Palin.

  85. fishlady Says:

    Heck Yes !!!!!
This is just another episode of Sarah’s Soap opera….. As Alaska Turns……..

  86. Jim Martin Says:

Sarah is taking a stand against corrupt democrats. sarah takes on the corrupt on both sides.

  87. Cindy D Says:

Tally – 3 picked by Palin and ya know the Democrats will reject the 3rd. You can bet she will not even look at the list of 4 names the Juneau Democrats submitted for Palin to nominate. Don’t expect a Senator this Year.

  88. ak1979 Says:

I would send 3 names right back to her.

    Palin will lose!!!

  89. ak1979 Says:

the next note to Palin should ask for her resignation.

  90. LemonCreek89 Says:

I think Dennis would ahve been a great choice. See http://www.AndrewHalcro.com for good commentary on the unraveling.

  91. ak1979 Says:

Believe it or not but anchorage people want her out of office and siding with Juneau residents

Dennis would be a good fit and is committed to Juneau and Southeast. But who the heck is Alan Wilson and where does she come up with these people?

  93. ToddP Says:

Wilson wasn’t a Dem until a month ago. Another DINO. Typical. He’ll get punted like the rest.

  97. John Priestley Jr Says:

As I thought, No representation in Juneau until 2010. If anything it is sharp politics by the governor. She can deal with Central Committes on her own terms.

All the Juneau Dems know which Metcalfe to sent the thank you cards to. I suspect there will be another challenge of the Frank Initiative and move of the capitol bill will come up before Juneau even has a senator. I never thought the capitol would move, never wanted but I see it happening now. Never thought it would go down like this.

    Ce Que sera!

  98. John Priestley Jr Says:

Oh boy! Celtic Diva has some BIG conspiracy cooked up about a place where a pair of shoes were bought. Is this what she does for a living? Make money off of stories she can cook up about where a pair of shoes was bought? Linda, honey, there are many more important things [corrupt ]about Alaskan Tyranny thet need to be dealt with.

How about let’s address the thousands of state employees who have to deal with the [Kim Metcalfe] AFSCME, and in particular the secret deals [actual conspiracy?] of Jim Duncan and the Murkowski Administration. Or was that a deal (file 223-03-0342) that was public or was it confidential, LISA KIRSCH?

WOW! Sarah Palin has officially gone off the deep end. She is completely out of line. This is the most childish thing I’ve seen since last week when my kids were acting up because they didn’t get their way. Face it Alaska, she doesn’t know how to be a leader. A real leader with smarts would have worked out appointing a seat immediately and smoothly. A real leader would know how to utilize resources in all regions of the state which she hasn’t. She still lets her personal feeling get in the way of progress, especially in Southeast.
At least with Murkowski he tried. Now I’m not comparing Palin to Murkowski, they are two different idiots. But at least he didn’t get as personal as Palin is. She is on a whole different level of childish.

  100. Kara Altman Says:

First – yes! I have known Dennis since I was a child – despite the fact that I was definitely NOT in his circle. He was always kind to me – always treats people with respect. I think he is an excellent choice.

Second – JOHN PRIESTLY JR> – Just what in the H— are you thinking??? If you have a bone to pick with AFSCME, and the people involved, write your own letter to the editor. Take it through the legal process, whatever – but throwing names out there like that – especially Lisa’s – seems pretty close to slander to me. I, for one. am sick of hearing about your petty “conspiracy” problem. If it had any merit – you wouldn’t be trying it in the “court” of the JE Vox Box!

  101. mpshake Says:

I too enjoy Dennis on Problem Corner, however I do not believe it would be in Juneau’s best interests to have him represent us in a Senate seat. As a regular listener I have a problem with many things that Dennis has said on his program, many I thought were unrepresentative of a person capable of holding a Senate office appointment. It would be like having Rush Limbaugh running for an office, it would take little effort to dig up off handed comments or a consistency in his demeanor that many find … unflattering. Is he a good radio station owner, yes. He has his moments on air that make me laugh, but then there is a side to him that creeps out occasionally and there is an undeniable sense that the listener picks up on that he has a real nasty side to him that he tries to cover for.

  102. David Strouth Says:

I believe Mayor Botelho had a winning suggestion, one producing a win-win, and giving Ms. Palin a comfortable solution to her mean-spirited control issues. I’m pleased the leg. dems. are not letting her steamroll.

  103. Shoeless in Juneau Says:

I won’t be buying any shoes from the shoe fly these days. The three guys who have taken the Palin invite seriously and gotten onto her bus seem to forget the cloud of economic turmoil this vindictive Governor has showered upon us for 3 years now. You are NOTHING BUT A SMOKESCREEN in Palinland. It’s time to wake up from your drunken political stupors and stick up for Juneau. This script is getting old – same old chaos and divisiveness to cover up her inability to govern the state or even manage a small task like put two sentences together – same debris, different day. The Pied Piper sure has had easy pickins in Juneau.

  104. akngirl Says:

It’s time to IMPEACH PALIN!!!!!! (if only that could happen……sigh….)

  105. akhomes Says:

    Absolutely!

  106. LemonCreek1971 Says:

Bottom line here is this is nothing but Media fodder of how “tough” Sarah can be beating up Democrats to please the conservative base for the presidental run in 2012. The campaign has already started. Anyway, if she loses in 2010 or 2012 or both, do you think the Gov will stay in Alaska? I doubt it. Move over Cavuto, O’Reiley, etc….for the next Fox star….SARAH PALIN

  107. Paulette Simpson smell Says:

I think Paulette Simpson has her fingerprints all over this controversy. Palin can’t be thinking up these Senate appointment barriers on her own. Palin is listening to local Republican nonsense. There were 99% of American voters that voted against McPain in the general election. What’s Queen Sarah going to do, punish all that voted against her in the general? Ha.

  108. Karen Says:

Juneau voted for Kim Elton – we should have a replacement equal to the standard we had come to expect from Mr. Elton. This shouldn’t be about politics or payback. Apparently SP is serving her own interests and not those of Juneau’s majority vote. She continues to be the worst possible representative of our State.

  109. KarenJ Says:

OT — but it’s nice to see that the Palin supporters haven’t figured out a way to shut down commentary in the VoxBox/Juneau Blogger section of the Juneau Empire.

  110. Frank N. Beans Says:

Karen, yes we voted for Kim, the republicans really did not have anyone worthy to dethrone the king of mediocrity, we need another democrat who wants to be there, that is willing to do virtually nothing, then it will be like Kim never left.
Go ahead and tell me I wrong, if you can name one meaningful bit of legislation Kim has brought us, and yes I did vote for Kim also, lesser of two evils theory, surely there are other people out there wanting to be a Senator?

  111. Downtown2009 Says:

    Grussendorf!!!!! :)

  112. gmpatton Says:

Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Independent, if you haven’t figured out that Palin is just phoning it in at this point let me confirm it for you. Sarah needs to resign and pursue her dream career as a Republican cheerleader talking-head like her political blonde barbie counterpart Ann Coulter. In the mean time the rest of us can get back to the business of actually trying to govern this state.

  113. Curmudgeon Says:

Dennis Egan is the same bullying wisea** he was in high school. He’s never grown up. We need a grownup like Beth Kerttula in the Senate. I’m sick and tired of this parade of Paulette’s Puppets — the Governess needs to nominate a real Democrat, just like Democratic governors nominated real Republicans. She needs to stop let Paulette Simpson boss her around.

  114. Cactusman Says:

Phil Smith would do a fine job

  115. ScoundrelFormerlyLovingLife Says:

Paulette Simpson smell, have you been smoking weed again?

99% of Americans didn’t vote in the last general election. If they had, Palin would be our VP. The final count put Obama at 53 %. That means that 47%, almost half of those that did vote, wanted some else. Alaska went Republican with our 3 electoral votes.

  116. tpann Says:

Egan is still the best choice to get us through the interim and next session. Then we can had an election and if Beth wins then great.

  117. fishlady Says:

and where is the great Governor tonight? (sic)

  118. John Priestley Jr. Says:

    Kara Altman Says:

Well I can tell you didn’t look up any of the files I cited. You must live near sandy beach. It’s the best, most convienient place to bury your head.

  119. John Priestley Jr. Says:

99% of Americans didn’t vote in the last general election.

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
